Tidal Ops was founded on a specific observation: the convergence of LEO satellite performance, regulatory mandates, and the failure of legacy VSAT incumbents to serve the operational reality of modern maritime operators had created a gap that no generalist provider was positioned to fill. We built the platform to fill it.

The mission
is simple.

To deliver the connectivity infrastructure that maritime operations actually require — not what legacy satellite providers were willing to build.

Maritime is not a vertical that rewards generalists. A fleet manager in the Bering Sea, a technical superintendent managing an offshore energy platform in the North Sea, and a port authority director in the Gulf of Mexico are facing entirely different operational realities — but they share the same fundamental requirement: connectivity that is reliable, compliant, and managed end-to-end by people who understand what a vessel at sea actually demands.

That is what Tidal Ops was built to deliver.

Maritime is not a checkbox
Every engineer, every NOC analyst, every support line at Tidal Ops is focused on vessels, platforms, and port infrastructure. We do not serve enterprise IT, land-based broadband, or consumer markets. Maritime is all we do.

The pipe is not the product
Raw bandwidth is a commodity. The managed services layer — NOC monitoring, compliance reporting, cybersecurity overlay, SD-WAN intelligence, and SLA accountability — is where the operational value lives. We are a managed services company, not a satellite reseller.

Compliance is architecture, not an add-on
VMS, GMDSS, MLC, USCG Cyber, and IMO CII are not features you select from a menu. They are built into the platform from the ground up. Every vessel under contract meets its obligations from the first day of operation.

Network agnosticism is the moat
Most competitors are locked to a single constellation. Tidal Ops routes intelligently across Starlink, OneWeb, Amazon LEO, and Telesat Lightspeed — plus 5G/LTE coastal integration. No single provider failure takes a managed fleet offline.

One company.

Tidal Ops was not founded on a product idea. It was founded on a set of market observations that converged at a specific moment — when LEO satellite performance crossed a threshold, when regulatory mandates reached enforcement, and when the VSAT incumbent market proved unable or unwilling to respond.

The founders had operated classified communications networks aboard Military Sealift Command vessels, sold managed security platforms to Fortune 1000 enterprises, and watched the maritime connectivity market from the inside. The gap was clear. The timing was right.

Observation 01 · Technology
LEO latency crossed the operational threshold
When Starlink Maritime reached sub-40ms latency at scale, the physics changed. Real-time SCADA control, remote expert video, and live telemetry became viable over satellite for the first time. GEO VSAT at 600ms was never capable of this. The technology was no longer the constraint.

Mandates reached simultaneous enforcement
MLC 2006 crew internet obligations, USCG cybersecurity mandates, IMO CII emissions reporting, and GMDSS modernisation all reached active enforcement within the same window. Operators without a managed compliance solution faced real operational and legal exposure — not future risk.

VSAT incumbents were not moving
The established maritime VSAT market had structural incentives to protect legacy GEO satellite revenue. Transition to LEO was slow, piecemeal, and never packaged as a managed service. The hardware was available. The managed services layer was not. That was the gap.

Operators needed a single accountable partner
Vessel operators were managing separate VSAT contracts, IT vendors, compliance consultants, and cybersecurity providers simultaneously. One managed services partner — with a single SLA, a single point of contact, and deep maritime domain knowledge — was not just preferable. It was the only rational operational model.

A Starlink terminal on a vessel deck is not a solution. It is hardware. The managed services stack above it — NOC monitoring, SLA accountability, compliance reporting, cybersecurity overlay — is what operators are actually buying. We price accordingly and deliver accordingly.

“Compliance is not a feature. It is the architecture.”
Maritime regulatory mandates do not respect upgrade cycles. Vessels that are not compliant on day one face operational holds, PSC detentions, and legal exposure. Every Tidal Ops package is built around active mandates — not retrofitted with compliance tools after the fact.

“Maritime cyber is the most underpriced risk at sea.”
The convergence of OT and IT networks on vessels has created a vulnerability surface that legacy operators were not designed to defend. A $4.4M average breach cost in maritime — against the cost of a managed cybersecurity overlay — is not a difficult decision. It is an unpriced liability waiting to be triggered.

Single-constellation providers create single points of failure. Operators who depend on one provider for mission-critical connectivity are one orbital event, one commercial dispute, or one regulatory change away from exposure. Multi-constellation routing with automatic failover is the only responsible architecture.

Sub-40ms latency over satellite was not commercially available at maritime scale until recently. Every operational assumption built around GEO VSAT — what is possible for SCADA, remote operations, telemedicine, and real-time fleet management — needs to be revisited. Most of the industry has not done that yet.

Robert brings the rarest credential in maritime connectivity: he has operated classified communications networks aboard Military Sealift Command vessels at sea. As a Communications Operator on MSC T-AK ships out of Diego Garcia, he administered and secured the full C4S network suite — classified and unclassified systems, COMSEC/EKMS, LAN infrastructure, and disaster recovery procedures — under Commander, Military Sealift Command directives. That experience is not theoretical. It is operational.

Robert served nearly thirteen years in the United States Navy across two critical designations. As a Cryptologic Technician Networks (CTN) and Intelligence Analyst (CTR), he developed a dual expertise that is vanishingly rare in the commercial market: the ability to both exploit and defend digital networks at the highest classification levels. He graduated from the Joint Cyber Analysis Course at the National Security Agency — the NSA’s premier programme for offensive and defensive cyberspace operations — and subsequently worked as a Target Digital Network Exploitation Analyst at NSA Fort Meade, conducting computer network analysis, SIGINT collection, and target development against foreign adversary systems.

His posting to the Missile Defense Agency at Schriever AFB as a Network Systems Manager for the Ground-based Missile Defense Fire Control & Communications programme added 24/7 mission-critical network operations experience — the architecture closest to what a maritime managed services NOC requires. Robert leads Tidal Ops’ network architecture, cybersecurity posture, NOC design, and technical infrastructure.

Chris brings thirteen years of enterprise technology sales leadership with a consistent track record of selling complex managed security and infrastructure platforms to Fortune 1000 buyers. His career spans enterprise software at CA Technologies and a decade of cybersecurity and cloud security at Lacework, Cybereason, Zscaler, and Nucleus Security.

The pattern across every role is the same: go-to-market from zero to scale. At Lacework he built the Central US territory from scratch, becoming a consistent top performer across the region. At Zscaler he sold zero-trust network architecture to large enterprise accounts. At CA Technologies he spent four years developing deep expertise in enterprise infrastructure and managed services — the commercial foundation that maps directly to what Tidal Ops delivers in maritime.

What connects this career track to maritime managed services is structural. Chris has always sold platforms that replace fragmented point solutions with a unified managed architecture — the conversation he had with security leaders about replacing legacy perimeter tools with zero-trust cloud security is architecturally identical to the conversation Tidal Ops has with maritime operators about replacing VSAT contracts and compliance consultants with a single managed LEO platform. Chris leads Tidal Ops’ commercial operations, go-to-market strategy, and customer acquisition.
