Built for maritime.

LEO performance crossed a threshold. Compliance mandates reached enforcement. The VSAT incumbents did not move. Tidal Ops exists to close that gap.

The mission

The mission is simple.

To deliver the connectivity infrastructure that maritime operations actually require — not what legacy satellite providers were willing to build.

Maritime does not reward generalists. A fleet manager in the Bering Sea, a superintendent on a North Sea platform, and a port director in the Gulf face different realities and the same requirement: connectivity that is reliable, compliant, and managed end-to-end by people who understand a vessel at sea.

That is what Tidal Ops was built to deliver.

What we believe

Four principles.

01

Maritime is not a checkbox

Every engineer, every NOC analyst, every support line is focused on vessels, platforms, and port infrastructure. No enterprise IT. No land-based broadband. No consumer. Maritime is all we do.

02

The pipe is not the product

Bandwidth is a commodity. The managed layer — NOC monitoring, compliance reporting, cybersecurity overlay, SD-WAN intelligence, SLA accountability — is where the value lives. We are a managed services company, not a satellite reseller.

03

Compliance is architecture, not an add-on

VMS, GMDSS, MLC, USCG Cyber, and IMO CII are not menu options. They are built into the platform. Every vessel under contract meets its obligations from day one.

04

Network agnosticism is the moat

Most competitors are locked to a single constellation. Tidal Ops routes intelligently across multiple LEO constellations — plus 5G/LTE coastal integration. No single provider failure takes a managed fleet offline.

Why we exist

Four observations. One company.

Tidal Ops was not founded on a product idea. It was founded on four observations that converged at one moment. The founders had run classified communications aboard Military Sealift Command vessels and sold managed security platforms to Fortune 1000 enterprises. The gap was clear.

Observation 01Technology

LEO latency crossed the operational threshold

When Starlink Maritime reached sub-40ms latency at scale, the physics changed. Real-time SCADA control, remote expert video, and live telemetry became viable over satellite. GEO VSAT at 600ms never was. Technology stopped being the constraint.

Observation 02Regulatory

Mandates reached simultaneous enforcement

MLC 2006 crew internet, USCG cybersecurity, IMO CII emissions reporting, and GMDSS modernization all reached active enforcement in the same window. Operators without a managed compliance solution faced real legal and operational exposure — not future risk.

Observation 03Market

VSAT incumbents were not moving

The incumbent VSAT market had structural incentives to protect legacy GEO revenue. The move to LEO was slow, piecemeal, and never packaged as a managed service. The hardware existed. The managed layer did not. That was the gap.

Observation 04Operations

Operators needed a single accountable partner

Operators were running separate VSAT contracts, IT vendors, compliance consultants, and cybersecurity providers at once. One partner — one SLA, one point of contact, deep maritime domain knowledge — was not just preferable. It was the only rational structure.

Leadership

The team.

Robert Esser

Managing Partner & CEO

Robert has operated classified communications networks aboard Military Sealift Command vessels at sea. As a Communications Operator on MSC T-AK ships out of Diego Garcia, he administered and secured the full C4S network suite — classified and unclassified systems, COMSEC/EKMS, LAN infrastructure, and disaster recovery — under Commander, Military Sealift Command directives. Not theoretical. Operational.

He served nearly thirteen years in the United States Navy as a Cryptologic Technician Networks (CTN) and Intelligence Analyst (CTR) — the ability to both exploit and defend networks at the highest classification levels. He graduated from the Joint Cyber Analysis Course at the National Security Agency and worked as a Target Digital Network Exploitation Analyst at NSA Fort Meade, conducting network analysis, SIGINT collection, and target development against foreign adversary systems.

At the Missile Defense Agency at Schriever AFB he managed network systems for the Ground-based Missile Defense Fire Control & Communications program — 24/7 mission-critical operations, the closest architecture to a maritime managed services NOC. Robert leads network architecture, cybersecurity posture, NOC design, and technical infrastructure.

Chris Miller

Managing Partner & COO

Chris brings thirteen years of enterprise technology sales leadership, selling complex managed security and infrastructure platforms to Fortune 1000 buyers. His career spans enterprise software at CA Technologies and a decade of cybersecurity and cloud security at Lacework, Cybereason, Zscaler, and Nucleus Security.

The pattern is consistent: go-to-market from zero to scale. At Lacework he built the Central US territory from scratch and became a consistent top performer. At Zscaler he sold zero-trust network architecture into large enterprise accounts. At CA Technologies he spent four years in enterprise infrastructure and managed services.

The through-line is structural. Chris has always sold platforms that replace fragmented point solutions with one managed architecture — the same conversation Tidal Ops has with operators replacing VSAT contracts and compliance consultants with a single managed platform. Chris leads commercial operations, go-to-market, and customer acquisition.

Managing Partner · Global Paradigm  ·  CCIE · MBA · ITIL

Anil holds three of the most demanding credentials in IT infrastructure and managed services operations: CCIE, an MBA, and ITIL. His career has focused on one discipline: building organizations that deliver complex managed services reliably, profitably, and at enterprise quality.

At Presidio/INX he served as VP of Managed Services and Director of Engineering for Managed Services — building 24/7 support delivery, introducing an offshore service model, achieving full ITIL alignment, and holding employee retention above 90%. He was later President of GDT Advanced Solutions before founding Global Paradigm, an IT operations consultancy advising on uptime, capacity planning, IT/business alignment, and operational risk since 2016.

At Tidal Ops, Anil advises on managed services operational architecture — NOC design, SLA framework, service delivery methodology, and the infrastructure required to scale to fleet-grade 99.99% uptime commitments.
